Topographies of water

Valencia 2013

Information

Topographies of water. A natural journey through the historic centre of Valencia.

Valencia is a flat city… but how important is the existing pre-settlement topography in the generation of the Historic City?

Where does the old southern meander of the city pass through and how does it relate to the old 11th century Moorish wall? As well as where did the water enter the interior of the city in the flood of 1957?

Throughout the walk through the historic centre of Valencia, we will analyse the importance of the topography and coexistence of the rustic plots and their network of irrigation channels in the configuration of an urban fabric linked to the natural spaces of the rural tradition.

A topographical and natural walk to discover the influence of the hydrographic basin and the historical hydraulic networks in the configuration of the urban fabric as well as the existence of natural elements in the historic centre of Valencia.

We will take a tour in a natural key.

Route developed for PAISEA magazine as part of the 3rd Valencia Landscape Architecture Meeting, December 2013.
