La Calderería. Factory of Alternatives was the revitalisation of an old industrial boiler factory to become a laboratory of emerging culture and social economy.

Developed by the Coordinadora de Iniciativas Vecinales (LaCIV) through a strategy of activation and collective co-management of disused premises based on a call for projects for the temporary use and exploitation of the space, aimed at creators and collectives related to emerging culture and the social economy. Its rehabilitation was proposed through a process of Urban Masovería, that is to say. A lack of rent in exchange for an investment by the tenants in the rehabilitation of the space.

The project involved the activation of the space and its enhancement. This provoked the interest of private investors who finally leased and rehabilitated the building through the usual processes.
